As promised, here a  few photos of the new and improved Benjamin Branch Library, which just reopened in the Guilford Hills neighborhood of Greensboro, NC. 

It really is an amazing transformation!  As you can see from the photos, it was a complete renovation.  The rich tones of the chairs and woodwork, sleek granite countertops and colorful artwork and sculptures make it a visual feast!  The children’s area invites younger patrons to join in the fun of reading.  The unique entry-way has books spinning atop a couple of funky poles.  Check out (pun intended) the Benjamin Branch Library for yourself.

The Benjamin Branch Library, located in the Guilford Hills neighborhood in Greensboro, NC, is scheduled for its grand reopening this Thursday, January 7.  This branch has expanded and renovated, offering an open, sunny design, more computers and new meeting rooms.  The branch has been closed for more than a year while it was under construction.  The official reopening celebration will take place at 2 p.m.  Check with the branch for more information on story times, additional services or to reserve a room.  I’ll try to post some photos later this week.

Guilford Hills is yet another great neighborhood in Greensboro, NC.  It is nestled between Battleground Avenue and Benjamin Parkway and is conveniently located minutes from downtown Greensboro, Friendly Center, and the many stores along Battleground Avenue.  Yet it is a quiet, residential area with reasonably priced homes generally built in the late 1950s or early 1960s.

Guilford Hills is home to the soon-to-be newly-renovated Benjamin Branch Public Library and Guilford Hills Park, which has playground equipment and natural areas.  General Greene Elementary is located across the street from the library.  It is an award-winning magnet school, featuring a comprehensive science and technology curriculum.  Magnet Schools of America recently named General Greene as a School of Distinction, only one of five schools in Guilford County to earn this designation.  The students learn through lots of hands-on activities, such as creating Power Point presentations, using PDAs to record data and create charts and conducting a multitude of science and physics experiments. 

Guilford Hills has an extremely active neighborhood association known as Guilford Hills Unification Committee.  This vibrant neighborhood has many community events.  The warm glow of luminaries brighten the entire neighborhood every December.  In addition, Guilford Hills Unification Committee sponsors park clean-ups, a Fall Festival, Neighborhood Yard Sales, a Holiday Decorating Contest and a Christmas Party.  Guilford Hills also supports local charities, such as Ronald McDonald House, Urban Ministries and Murphy’s Kids, a charity created by Jack Murphy, a popular deejay at Q107 Radio, that financially assists children.
